Picture blur, like noise in pictures or?

I have personally having a lot of problems with camera. On fence about getting it fixed or hoping it's a software update fix.

Camera problems for me are that you never know whether your going to get a "good" or "bad" pic. Lots and lots of noise in pictures at times. If you zoom ANY it becomes extremely pixelated quick. Portrait mode super inconsistent but it's beta so that can slide.

If you have a 7 Plus you shouldn't be getting pixelation unless you go over 2x. Anything before that uses optical zoom.

Pictures in general seem to be grainy and noisy more often than not. Seems only under certain lighting the pictures are good. A lot are equivalent to what I'd have take with my old galaxy nexus or something.

I'm just really hoping it's a software problem and not hardware. I think above I post a example of what I'm talking about.

You would have to be in pretty good lighting for it to engage the telephoto lens in photo mode. Portrait mode will automatically engage the telephoto lens with 2x optical, but due to the significantly narrower aperture, it won't help in many situations. The telephoto lens is the one closest to the flash... You can put your finger over it to see when it is engaged

Here is an example. Top regular lens no zoom, middle regular lens digital 2x zoom, bottom telephoto lens 2x optical zoom

When you say telephoto, do you mean you used a lens adapter?

1X is the normal lens, there's no digital 2x since there's a 2x optical zoom.

Thank you for explaining that!

If the lighting is not sufficient the iOS chooses 2x digital over 2x optical.

Correct. The main lens is much more capable in less than ideal situations. Unfortunately there's no indication on the phone itself whether it is optical or digital zoom. So you have to put your finger over a lens to make that determination or pop it into portrait mode to engage optical zoom.

However the system is smart enough to determine which is better at a given situation like you said so most people don't care
