Does Iphone XR, really need serial number transferred to work properly?

I recently replaced my LCD on my XR and it worked great for about a week. It suddenly started to act crazy, image going in and out, then fuzzy and gone. I have read some threads about a serial number transfer from old to new. I happen to have thrown my old LCD which makes me SOL if I really need that serial number to make my iphone work again. Can anyone give me suggestions?
