Deleting individual messages in a thread I tap More, but trash can does not appear. Why

Deleting individual messages in a thread; I tap "More", but trash can does not appear.

The only option given is to delete the entire conversation. How do I get the trash can option back so I can delete just parts of a conversation.

Press & hold the individual message, click more & you should get the trash can option

Sometimes the keyboard gets stuck with a part at the bottom covering the trash can and arrow. If you can't get it to dislodge, swipe the messages app out of the multitasking tray. Then try again.

Sometimes on mine I have to click on another text, sign out and then sign in again. Then when I go back to the original text it brings up the trash can.

Yeah, that bar at the bottom that hides the trash can and arrow is part of the keyboard. It gets stuck. A few times I raise the keyboard, then kinda slam it down. That's actually worked a few times.
