Deleting from phone

When I use the search screen on my iPhone 4S, I can find emails that I have deleted from my email.
Is there a way to get it off my phone completely?

Are they removed from the trash and deleted messages folders, if applicable?

Yes they aren't in my emails even when I looked on my pc

Closing the mail app from the most recent used list of apps or rebooting your device should remove the item from the spotlight search results. That is all I have to do.

If all else, login to your mail and delete them there one time and that should work. Worked for me.
