Data limit and phone calls

I

iMore Question

I'm being told by the step daughter than she can not make a phone call to another iPhone user if she hits her data limit. She can call Android users but not other iPhone users. Is she giving me the run around trying to get more data or is this true?

She’s giving you the runaround, unless she’s trying to make FaceTime calls on LTE.

Ability to make/receive calls depend on your carrier signal strength, not your amount of data.

With kids these days and social media apps that support in-app calling on LTE, I think she means that she can’t place calls using data.

Ask her to enable Travel Mode in Snapchat and similar setting in other apps to save on data usage.

That way she can place more calls with the same data limit.

She won’t be able to send iMessages* when she hits her limit but calls should be no problem.

*they will send as SMS (green bubble) but not iMessage (blue bubble)
