Update, 9:25 a.m. PT: An Apple representative said that the overnight sales of the new iPhones set a record, though Apple did not say how many have been sold.

“Response to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus has been incredible with a record number of preorders overnight,” Apple told Re/code.

All the carriers are getting hammered in the UK too. I have a friend who works for Vodafone and she says they are working 14 hours today and they have doubled their normal sales centre staff purely to deal with the influx of iPhone 6 orders. I spoke to her via FB about 30 minutes ago and she said they exceeded last year's 5S record within five hours...

Apple have unleashed some kind of monster here.
