Contacts in iCloud AND Gmail

After years of blissful ignorance, I've found myself in a predicament. I use Gmail and naively believed that if I had contact sync turned on for Gmail and iCloud, all of my contacts would sync to both accounts. I've recently learned that this is not the case. Since I switched my default account on my iOS devices mid-stream, I now have contacts saved in Gmail and iCloud.

I'm on the edge of taking the plunge fully into iCloud, but I'll need to move all of my contacts there. Has anyone been in this situation? How did you dig out?

I'm looking for the most painless solution I can possibly find, hopefully one that requires minimal contact duplication.

Are there any third party solutions that are worth a look?

Thanks for the help!

From the Gmail web site, go to contacts select all and export as a vcard.

From iCloud, select contacts and import vcard.

I was in a similar situation where I had duplicated contacts, but to transfer over to iCloud fully I deleted what iCloud had previously and imported the Gmail vcard

Thanks. I think I am just going to have to go that route, but I can't fully delete my iCloud contacts, because I have a number of them that aren't in Gmail. I just hope the cleanup isn't too crazy.
