Why can you not swipe to delete text messages? But you can do it in emails? Same with recent CALLS.. you can't swipe to delete. Please Apple! Be consistent!

You CAN swipe to delete texts. Swipe left, then when then red box appears tap Delete.

Truthfully, I'd say iOS is probably the most consistent operating system available.

What he said ^^^^
iOS is pretty dang consistent. More consistent than other major OSs I've used.

That additional tap on the delete button is there by choice.. Unlike emails, you can't recover text messages and recent calls from a 'Deleted' folder, because there is none.
So as a means of precaution, you have to tap the delete button one more time.

Also, if you have messages set on forever, you can delete all the messages without deleting the thread. When you press "more", choose "Delete all" in the upper left corner.

Thanks for replying
It's different on emails. You simply swipe left to delete. You don't have to press delete!

And I it would have been consistent if they had a search bar in the call lists as well. They have a search bar in messages, settings, emails, but just not in the calls list. So searching for a number is agony. Maybe something for the iOS 11 wishlist

THANK YOU! This makes so much sense!
