The MBA 11" would be my main laptop for school and home use. No major or heavy programs, all docs would be saved on flash drives. My question is does MBA run the latest version of Adobe Flash and Java? Those a necessary for the school software interfaces of Canvas Instructure and McGraw Hill Connect. Also will the base model be sufficient space, I just stream music?

Yes.
Depends on what else you do... want to store movies? Lots and lots of photos? Go bigger if you can afford it.. but the base model should be fine for your use.
