My old 4S has a charging problem where it will restart at random while it's charging. I've checked the logs and I've found a few kernel panics at the times it has restarted with bug type 110 which usually means it's a hardware problem. I'm just wondering if it should still be used or if it should stop being used. It only restarts & kernel panics when it's charging, other than that it works fine.

Are you using a charging cable and block made by Apple? Does it occur when you charge it from other wall sockets or a source like your computer?

The cable and block are both made by Apple, it has occurred from both wall sockets and a computer. I'm going to try and find another 30-pin cable to try and see what happens tomorrow.

I found a 30-pin cable so I going to try and see if the issue is still there.

Make sure the ports are clear of debris and dust. Use a pressure blower if you have one.

Well it is charging fine no restarts with both cables now. But while not on charge it's heating up while doing simple tasks like watching a video in safari while on wifi only and the battery life is going down a bit faster now while doing the same tasks as before.

Abnormally warm? Does it get hot to touch? If so, you should take it to an Apple Store and let the Genius Bar techs look at it.

It's not hot to the touch but it's warmer than what it should be.

Videos and certain games will make it get warm. If it gets too hot you'll see this warning:

Well I decided that I don't want to risk my old 4S failing on my dad since he uses it for work so I gave him my 5S and got myself the 6 to use now. I rather my dad have a reliable device for work than one that is acting up on him. And the closest Apple Store is about 1 hour away while the closest carrier store is 20 minutes away. My dad was going to get the 6 once his contract was up in 5 months but decided to get it now and I just swapped phones with him.

You should make a try using another one. Then let see what happen.

I did get to try another 4S and it did charge fine but the cable that was giving me problems in the first place just stopped working. But my old 4S started to do the restart while charging thing again so I think the charging chip or something is on its way out.

Just an update, my old 4S has stopped charging. It won't accept any cable I try and my computer can't detect it. I think the charger port on the phone is done.

Glad you ended up giving your dad the 5S before this one died.
