2)where can i find out the firmware version of it?

If it has a metal back then it is the 2G iPhone. As far as unlocking goes I am with ATT so I would nto know anything about that, but if you do a Google search about it I am sure that you will find all the info that you need. As far as knowing the firmware version you need to go into settings and about. I am almost sure that it is a 3G or 3GS as I don't think that they made a 16gig 2G but I could be wrong about that. Hope that helps.

Sounds like it's a lost/stolen phone. Try to find the owner and make them happy by returning it.

Is the writing at the bottom shiny silver like the Apple logo, or more of a matte grey? The shiny silver is 3GS, the matte grey is the 3G.

But I agree with Alli.

So if there isn't a sim in it, then it's not stolen/lost? Yeah that makes sense:D

I agree with Alli...

Never thought about that. To the OP, just how did you cousin come into possession of it. Ali makes a good point if it is locked then there is a good bet that it belongs to someone who would like it back.

It's entirely possible that this isn't locked with a passcode but just isn't activated in iTunes. That will give you the same "will only make an emergency call" behavior.

Ummm, if it was his old iPhone then why do you not know what the pass code is? Why would he give you it and not tell you. I'm calling BS on the OP.

If it's not stolen take it to a Genius desk. If it is stolen take it to a Genius desk. Get it returned to it's owner.
