Can you delete "other" used storage?

Over time the storage on my iPhone 5 shrinks with all the storage hungry apps. Slowly my free space shrivels up.

Is there a way to delete this data freeing up my phone's internal storage without affecting my apps?

It depends on what is in the "other" category. Are you jailbroken? If so, that accounts for a good portion of it. Otherwise, it’s comprised of stuff like messages, app data, logs, and similar. Pretty quickly it becomes the old bit of trying to cram 10 pounds of stuff into a 5 pound bag...

The amount of space that is not critical to the function of the iPhone is going to be so negligible that the time used to restore it isn't really going to be worth it.

How much "other" storage are we talking here? That will give us a better way to clearly explain to you what is going on.

In 99% of all cases, your "Other" data is actually data stored by various apps installed on your iPhone. When my iPhone is feeling thin (on data), I just go to Settings > General > Usage and under "Storage" see all the apps and the space their data takes up. From there, simply delete the apps you no longer use. If your "Other data" is taking up too much space on your iPhone, this certainly means you have apps which you have not used for quite some time and can delete.

I agree. I am guessing there are apps that have data store on your phone that you just don't see. Delete the old stuff you are not using anymore. if that doesn't help, chances are a resore maybe in order

There is a thread about this on apple's website, sorry don't have a link. Other can sometimes get crazy but a lot of people on apple's forums simply hooked their phone up to iTunes and did a physical sync and it "corrects" other.
Great part about iTunes now is being able to sync without wiping the phone. Maybe just hook it up and add an app or remove one and see if that fixes it.
