Whatsapp send messages to whatsapp regardless to which phone or platform, provided the receiver have whatsapp installed on his/her device registered with a number.
There are ways to install whatsapp on iPad, on Mac, on Windows computer, on iPhone, android devices etc... Make sure you have whatsapp up running on your device, then request your contacts to install whatsapp on their devices too and voila.
