can I use family calendar and still synch to my mac

I want to backup & synch my calendars to my mac and not iCloud. Can I still use the family calendar?

Sync both the Mac and iPhone/iPad to iCloud... You can back-up to both as well... This will ensure using the family calendar is successful.
