Can I upgrade my storage?

I

iMore Question

I have recently got a DSLR camera and we be getting editing software.

I am out of storage though. Is it possible to get an external hard rive and edit my photos from that without taking up any storage on my mac?

I have also been looking into upgrading my SSD, if I do this will it effect my macs performance or lifespan?

Cheers

I put an SSD in my mid 2009 MacBook Pro last year and it has substantially increased the performance so much that I plan on keeping it several more years before I get a new one.

And SSD will positivity affects your Mac's performance and lifespan.

That's if it's not soldered to the motherboard, though. I know MacBook Pros can be upgraded. I don't know about the other ones though.
