Can I connect my iPhone 6 to my HDTV via an HDMI cable?

would like to be able to hook up new iphone 6 to my high def tv using a hdmi cable. i am aware that apple make a lighting cable for this but on fixed income and not wanting to be the 50.00 for it. can i use a purchase a 8 pen to 30 pen connector and then connect my tv using this rather than the more costly cable version. just trying to pinch some pennies to save a little money is all. or do i just go and order the costly version and shut up

The lightning to 30-pin adapter does not support video output, so it wouldn't work.
