First of all, welcome to iMore! In regards to your issue, I would definitely either contact Apple Support or the Genius Bar at a nearby Apple Store. Another thought is that there are all sorts of Photography workshops at Apple Stores, so it might be beneficial to see if you could hook up with one of them at your genius bar appointment. They may be able to look at it and help you remedy it on the spot!

I contacted Apple and they recommended I go into a store. Nearest store is 4 hours away. Anyways was just hoping to see if anyone else here was experiencing the same thing. It’s definitely not an isolated incident because it’s happening on both phones we have.

This is by no means a fix but I find tap and hold of the screen will give you a quick window of focus

Are you running iOS 12 regular or beta. I had this issue on some of the 12.0 betas over the summer.

Welcome to iMore OP. I'm not having this problem, but if this issue is on both your Xs and Xs Max, I would definitely give Apple a call and see what they suggest, especially since you live 4 hours away. Feel free to join in on the many threads on iMore.

Since it occurs on both devices, I would think it's in the OS. There may be corruption in your back up. Have you tried restoring as new, not from a back up?

Wouldn’t I lose everything if I did this? Sounds like others are having this same problem.

Not if you put your photos somewhere safe, like on your computer or in a cloud app like Dropbox or Google photos. Your apps are still in your purchased list. One thing you might try first, is Reset All Settings. You won't lose anything. It fixes a lot of issues.

I have already done that. The more and more I talk with people I’m finding that it’s not just my two phones. Seems to be a iOS problem.
