I am a little disappointed in apple for such a large camera bump. Look at other devices and they are all flush now why can't apple do the same.

I feel the same way. To me, it's very unappealing and ugly. I could handle it before on older models like the iphone 8 where it was very small. But now it's so huge. I think eventually the camera will be as big as a pop socket and take up the entire back of the device.

I see more and more camera lenses getting broken on the 13 pro this year. I just don't understand apples thinking.

I might be in the minority but I actually like the bump and the tri-camera configuration.

The iPhone 14 concept has a flush camera but I think it makes the iPhone look rather plain.

Optical quality of the lenses would be adversely affected by a thinner bump. There are things that Apple could do instead:
  • make the phone as thick as the bump. Probably lots of people don't want that.
  • Make more of a strip across the top rather a concentrated cluster of lenses.
  • Have a phone with an uneven thickness at the back, tapering from the bottom to the top, with the thickness at the top equal to the size of the bump. Kind of like a MacBook Air without the screen that opens.

Apple designs what Apple designs. They'll never please everyone.

I’m sorry but that is a pretty ugly bigger bump , and it is certainly not flush. It is still protruding from that very bulky case.

The bump is so thick it casts its own shadow.

Honestly sales of the s21 ultra has been rather meek, consumers obviously are not responding to its design compared to the iPhone.

Or they could just make phones without super fancy cameras. If you want to take professional looking photos then buy a real camera. Cell phones cameras will never get close to a top or even mid tier DSLR

That S21 Ultra is in the silicon case that comes with the S Pen and that's why the cameras look flush. There's a pretty big camera bump when that phone isn't in the case.

I hate these iPhone camera bumps. And on the 13, they are even bigger than before. So big, that even with a case, the protective frame around the bump had to become so big that now it also wobbles with a case on.
I understand there are optical (and other) requirements. But why the asymmetrical position? The phone wobbles like a table with 3 legs of unequal length. This is inelegant and annoying. I seriously doubt Jobs would have given his blessing to this.
Make it strip-type and centric, and at least it won't wobble any longer.
Then, work on making it smaller, generation by generation, until it's flush.

IMHO, it doesn't even look flush, with the case, on this picture.

I own an S21 Ultra and without the case the bump is HUGE!
What's really ugly is the Pixel 6. ;)
