calender birthdays / anniversaries alerts

Why is it that the iphone does not display an alert for birthday's / anniversaries?
Is there any particular setting for this?

Are you using Gmail? If yes, I'd add the birthday's to the respective contacts, and then sync (Google Exchange). That way, you still get the alerts, etc, etc.

i usually enter the contacts on my mac ... including the birthday and the anniversary..
when i sync, the b'days and anniversaries turn up on the calender fine...
but no alerts on the iphone.
am i missing something here?

hari.p - I use to notice the same thing when I would sync with Outlook. Then when I started to use the Google Calendar, i.e. Gmail, that issue was resolved, thus my initial question.

I could have sworn I had the same issue with my Mobile ME account.

i'm entering the birthdays in my contacts and using the b'days subscription.
i use a time capsule for back up.
is there any particular reason that i should set up my calender in google?
