I thought Apple was supposed to fix this in the last update.. when you he hit 1+2+3 =23

This was a very well known error that was fixed in a recent update to iOS. Make sure you’re running the latest version and you’ll be fine.
iMore didn’t cover it but other sources did: https://www.macrumors.com/2017/10/24/ios-11-calculator-animation-bug/

EDIT: The bug was fixed in iOS 11.2, which is still in beta as of now, but is still present in the latest official build.

If you press the buttons fast it kind of freezes up you have to wait just a second. If you turn your keyboard clicking noises on you can hear that you’re not hitting the second + therefore it’s adding up weirdly

I’m on 11.1.2 and it still happens. Heard that 11.2 fixes it...

You are correct. I misspoke in my last response. The latest official iOS build still has the calculator bug but it’s fixed in the public and developer 11.2 betas. Hopefully 11.2 goes GM very soon.

It’s a bit sad on Apple's part that they do not release the 11.1.3 patch, and instead insist on waiting for 11.2, despite being aware of the issue. Very unlike Apple.

Well it’s not a major bug and is speed dependent. It doesn’t matter what you type, the fourth input doesn’t register quickly. So if you type 12+3, the 3 will lag. 7+8+9, the second + will lag. It’s annoying yes, but not major enough to warrant its own fix release of iOS.

That’s true, but it’s may cause some misunderstanding and issues with people who don’t know about the bug. Hope Apple finds some other bug to squash too so they have an excuse to release the 11.1.3.

By updating the app just like all other apps get updated from bugs and other things... my YouTube app just got updated for battery drain issues

While the app itself may be in the AppStore, it’s not a standalone app. It’s part of iOS as a whole.
It doesn’t get individual updates like standalone apps do. In other words, you’ll have to wait until Apple fixes the bug in the Calculator app in an official iOS update.

Have you ever seen the Calculator app in the App Store? No, because it isn’t there.

Yes, it actually is in the AppStore.
