buying an iphone on ebay

Hi i already have a contract and a data plan with at&t right now but i'm not eligible for upgrading so if i bought an iphone through at&t it would be like $400. Could I just buy an iphone off ebay and put my sim card in it and it would work?

...that is correct. You'd do a backup of your present iPhone, and then do a restore to the new device.

Chances are unless you get an iPhone 2G, you'll pay more on EBay.

Edit: I found some 3G phones on there for around $300. The 3GS will be way more ( think $500 - $600 ).

I haven't found anything less then 300 $ also.
