Do you really want to lug around your MacBook until next March? If not, then you've answered your own question. All the other aspects of the purchase are irrelevant if you are now done carrying a full laptop around. If it helps, it might be a good idea to pick up a 12.9 on a refurb. This way you get a price break on a purchase made late in the product cycle. This might take the sting out of doing so. Good luck!

JT2050 has a good point about refurbs, and you can honestly even just find good sale prices on the 12.9 these days. It really depends what you want. If you have to have to latest, wait til March and pay full price, but there's still 1/3rd of a year before the new models come out, and you can get a current model for a great price if you hunt around and are patient.

AppleInsider has a price guide they keep updated, so you can see where the best discounts currently are: 12.9-inch iPad Pro Price Guide. Coupons, Deals and Lowest Prices on all things Apple
