Best Way to Restore iPhone 12 Pro (iOS 14.1) from iPhone 11 Pro Backup (iOS 14.2 beta)

I will be getting my iPhone 12 Pro tomorrow and will want to restore it from my iPhone 11 Pro. However, the 12 Pro ships with iOS 14.1, while my 11 Pro is on 14.2 beta.

I just want to confirm that the best/only way to restore my new 12 Pro from my 11 Pro backup is to set up the 12 Pro as a new phone, sign in with my Apple ID and then download the iOS 14.2 Profile and update the 12 Pro to 14.2 beta 4; then "Reset" my 12 Pro and upon reboot, go through the set-up again, but this time, restore it from my iPhone 11 Pro backup.

Couldn’t you simply delete the beta profile on the iPhone 11 Pro, make a backup and then download that backup to your new iPhone? You could probably even do to the quick start.

That sounds about right. You could also do a direct transfer for the 11 Pro once you're on iOS 14.2 Beta 4.

I don’t think so. If I’m not mistaken, since the backup of the 11 Pro would be a backup on 14.2 beta (since you can’t downgrade without a reboot of the install profile), I wouldn’t be able to then put the backup on my 12 Pro until the 12 Pro was updated to the same iOS 14.2 beta that the 11 Pro backup was

As an update, everything transferred flawlessly! Set up the 12 Pro as new, downloaded 14.2 beta; then erased the phone and set it up with a transfer from my 11 Pro!
