I'm pulling the trigger on AppleTV. But first, what are the pros and cons?

So, you "pull the trigger" and THEN do the research?

My favorite features are:

Air Play from my rMBP, iPhone and iPad
The ability to use my TV as a second monitor
Streaming movies, TV shows and music from my computer

I have 4 in my home - family room, master bedroom, grandkids play room and my office.

So what is wrong with my Apple TV?
Edit: it's fine now. It wasn't all afternoon to the point I unplugged it, and forgot about it. Thanks

Been using it for close to 5 years. Purchased the third version last Summer and gave the second version to my bro.

Use it daily to watch my YouTube channels/subscriptions.

Tried Kindle Fire and ChromeCast.

Prefer the ATV interface.

If you get a good bluetooth keyboard the you got yourself all set, works great with a logitech k810 bluetooth keyboard; never looked back.

AirPlay. It's only as good as the device you're streaming from.

To me, I could stream even from my Android phone...which fulfills that hard drive need for any video streamer...

Pros - Airplay. Also allows you to play all your iTunes media. Plays your entire music collection if you have iTunes Match. iTunes Radio.

Cons - if you're not already knee deep in the iTunes ecosystem, it's really not much better than other offerings from Roku, Google, Amazon, etc.

To be honest, I'd go with a Roku 3 or Amazon fire tv instead. The lack of channels on Apple tv is ridiculous and its rather outdated.
