I'm looking into getting a fitness tracker. I want something that's accurate and reliable while doing my workouts. Also I'm wanting to stay in between the $100-$200 range. How many of you would suggest an Apple Watch or a Fitbit Alta?

I know nothing about the FitBit. I assume you already have an iPhone 5s or later, as one is needed for a Watch.

Typically the only Watch you'll get in that price range is the Apple Watch (original,pre-Series). It won't have GPS, if that's important to you. Does the FitBit have GPS? For a Watch with GPS you'll need a Series 2 and that's $399. You might score an open-box from BestBuy or an eBay deal, if your diligent and careful.

The Fitbit doesn't have GPS, but it is closer to my price range. I didn't think about the open box from Best Buy so I'll look into that, but I might just throw the extra few bucks for the Apple Watch. I think it'll be a better investment

I have had so many of the fitness trackers....polar, Tom Tom.....I like the Apple Watch the best because it not only tracks workouts, but has many uses ..... most fitness trackers are very limited.

This. And you can get a gen1 for cheap... closer to the $200 level than the $100 but shop around and look for sales.

I have the Fitbit Alta and am looking to get the Apple Watch soon. I use the health app which the Fitbit does not sync with so my steps are never counted during the day. I know that there is an app that you can get on the App Store but if I remember correctly the steps are not synced automatically and you have to do it manually which I feel is a bit of a bummer. I love my Alta but I think that the Apple Watch will probably be better as it is made specifically for the phone/OS. I'm thinking about getting the series 2 but if you don't need all the extra bells and whistles maybe you can try the series 1 but I think that may be a little out of your price range. Not sure about the series 0 as it is pretty slow but may still meet your needs.

I have both the Apple Watch Sport and the Alta. I liked things from both but I like my Watch way better.

Here is what I was doing - Apple Watch during the day and the Alta at night - sleep analysis and silent alarms. Plus the Watch needed to be charged daily.

Now for this week. I had to take my Watch to Apple for a repair and they needed to send it in so I am solely using the Alta and I REALLY miss my Watch.

So much better fitness tracking and what I didn't think I would miss was the temperature (weather) at a glance. I catch myself looking at the Alta for the temp.

My vote would be the Watch.

There was a news article about a month or so ago that stated that the Apple Watch was the most accurate of all the devices. Can't remember the article or the date though.
