Apple Watch, GPS satellite based map?

Is the Apple Watch capable of mapping my routes while hiking or hunting in the woods where there are no cell towers? my iPhone works great using only GPS satellite based location services and I have used it many times while traveling WAY outside cell service zones. Im wondering if the watch has GPS capabilities?

The Watch has no GPS receiver in it. It depends on connectivity to its paired iPhone for any map based app.
