Apple upgrade program credit hit?

I didn't know until I did the second year for the apple upgrade program that they do another credit check. This is pretty puzzling especially if it is a hard hit every year for a phone. My question is that does anyone know or heard if it is a hard hit or soft hit to the someone's credit? Thank you for the answer

It shows as a hard inquiry on your credit report. You’re essentially ending your agreement with Citizens One and establishing a new one. Since this is a new loan they have to pull your credit again.
I won’t bore everyone with the regulatory reasons behind this but there’s a reason they can’t simply say “Well, he/she paid the last loan back so we’ll just take his/her word for it this time.” They have to verify things just like they did the first time you applied.
