After the pencil is sleeping does it have to plugged into the iPad again to be connected?

It seems like the only way to me.

I wonder if that's a setting somewhere. Reason I say that is, I just opened my iPad and Pencil today (12:30pm) after not using it since last night (9pm-ish) and the Pencil worked without me plugging it in to the iPad.

Mine usually works. It depends on how much charge I left it with. But no connection problems ever, just sometimes I have to charge it a little before using it.

Notice this as well. Only difference is at times I am able to go few days with it staying connected, other times it might just be five or so hours apart. Either way a quick plug in has me working again.
