I have used screen protectors on my iphones and ipads and have ordered one for the ipad air I just bought.
I use the Moshi screen protector because it is easy to install and will not have any bubbles.
All the screen protectors will degrade the screen regardless of what they claim. It's just a matter what you can tolerate and also whether you use it in the bright daylight. They will help cut some of the glare.
The reason I use screen protectors is two fold. One, since these are mobile devices they go everywhere. I can tend to drop things, hit them on counters or corners, or just have an accident. The screen protector has always saved me. I also use my ipad when eating and don't have to worry about messy things getting on the screen. If you are not careful, when cleaning a bare screen, you can scratch it. With the protector, I just wipe it off. Also if kids are going to use ipad, they always seem to have messy fingers.
The other reason is that I cycle my phone and ipad. Every two years I upgrade. I then sell my old equipment. The amount you get when selling is dependent on condition of device. I just sold my iphone 4 which was in pristine condition and received top dollar because of condition. I feel that the protector was a good investment when comparing the different offers based on condition.
