Anyone try to do the 3.1 update on someone elses itunes

My computer has died and I'd like to do the 3.1 update via a friends itunes but don't want to screw up their itunes.... Has anyone done this and how can I do it without screwing it up.

You can actually do that but, all your data on the iPhone will be lost because you are syncing on a different computer.

Thanks mac... that's what i've heard but wanted to double check. Guess I'll have to wait until I get a new computer.
