Anyone have experience with buying a refurb from VZW?

I'm buying the iphone 6 outright from Verizon. The refurb is $100 less. Anyone have experience with buying a refurb from VZW? Any reason to spend the extra $100?

Nothing wrong with refurbs. If money were tight I'd go refurb. But for $100 more, new is best if the pockets are deep enough.

The heck with it. I ordered a new gray 64gb iphone. Tired of this Note 4 freezing and having lag for no apparent reason. Yes, it has been factory reset twice and has minimal apps.

I don't really have time to screw around with my mobile device anymore. Just want something that is reliable with decent camera and battery gets through normal work day.

Refurbs all have brand new parts so I don't see the difference.


In fact they are identical to new machines and have the full warranty. Could even be superior as they are individually inspected and tested.

I go new whenever I can. I do have a friend that bought an original iPad Mini and a Mini 2 a year after, both Apple refurbs, and they both worked perfectly. The battery worked like new, and the glass and body were both perfect. I would still recommend buying new whenever someone asks me though.

BS! Refurb is a term thrown around loosely these days. It is a vague term that could mean anything from some ****** bag wiping the finger prints off the screen and performing a factory reset to someone actually taking the device apart and replacing faulty components. I have a feeling its usually the former.

Wife bought a Lenovo Helix refurb direct from Lenovo and it spent the first couple of months back at Lenovo more than it did with her. Sure it carried the same warranty and they took care of us, but I don't think the techs did anything in-depth with the thing at all before putting it back out on the market. If she had bought new, it would've been replaced outright, instead of being sent back for repair multiple times. A new model was double in price though, so maybe it was worth the hassle in our case. If it was only $100 like in your case, we'd have went new, no question. If I had to go refurb, it'd be Apple over Verizon any day.

Screw Carrier insurance, just buy AC.

I've used verizon refurbs before, both android and iPhone. They were 'like new' in all respects compared to the faulty new devices they replaced. In my experiences, I've found Verizon's customer service to actually be pretty good. If something came up with one of their 'certified like new' devices, I have no problem believing they would take care of it.

Perhaps it's just me, but I wouldn't have taken a refurb purchased from VZW to an Apple store for repair. A better idea in this scenario would be to carry Verizon insurance, and let Verizon handle any issues that might come up. Also, if still within the first year of purchase, Verizon would have replaced the phone with speaker issue at no charge.

How was it determined that the device had a screen that was not OEM?
