I don't use a back cover for my iPad and as the camera lens is protruding will it damage the lens everytime I keep it on the table?

Yes the rim around the lens assembly will eventually have abrasion marks, it’s the only thing that’s protruding at the back.

Get a case to cover the iPad's back.

I use a Smart Cover and lay my iPad face down. I also have a sleeve I will put it in when I’m not going to be using it.
