Hi All,

Just looking to see if anyone has found a third party video app that supports playback of mkv files and also PIP?

I've been using AVPlayerHD, quite good, however no PIP.

Thanks!

VLC player can play mkv files, but I don't believe that the app has been updated for PIP. The Plex app has PIP, but I don't know if it supports mkv files. If I remember correctly, the VLC app has some sort of integration with Plex, so you may be able to find some way to move mkv files from VLC to Plex and use PIP. That's just a guess though.

Hi Andrew, thanks for the reply, yep I was thinking along the same lines, however sadly Plex doesn't allow you to copy files via USB iTunes transfer (it also transcodes stuff on the fly from memory, using the server as the transcode device).

As for VLC, sadly no option either for PIP.

I suspect the best option will be to stump up for plex pass, setup offline content syncing and watch in Plex app (using PIP where required).

PS - I wonder if the playback controls to developers in iOS 9 won't allow non approved video types to use avplayer controls, hence no access to PIP.
