The title made it seem as if the watch exploded and caused damages to someone to the point of having to go to the hospital. Clearly that’s not the case. Per the article, “The watch left burn marks on the user’s couch. He also ended up visiting the emergency room because of lead poisoning concerns, but it’s important to remember the Apple Watch does not actually contain nearly enough lead to actually cause poisoning. He was simply concerned about it”.

It also important to remember that nearly every Apple Watch release has supposedly burned someone. YouTube channels have been born from it or tried to be born from it. Comments sections of techie sites will temporarily get flooded (using appeal to emotion). The incentive is there as a way to launch a YT channel as well as a launch a lawsuit including a law firm getting its name repeatedly mentioned in (free) media.
Pretty much every product Apple releases (and not just Apple) will have claims that it injured someone. No kidding, there was one where the iMac bezel was off by a fraction of an inch that caused neck injuries. More recently iPad mini "jelly" scrolling that caused pain and suffering. There's a reason why the cautions on product warnings includes things like don't use your hair dryer in the shower.

Unfortunately this is something we all pay for both in terms of product costs as well as if any real product issues come up it is always first assumed as someone trying to scam.

With this generation, I’m not surprised since far too many people are looking for attention as well as to see how many views and likes they can generate. It’s as if their life is dependent upon it.
