Alerts with iPhone face down

I thought I heard that if my iPhone was face down, I wouldn't hear alerts. I always keep the phone in silent mode, but I hear the vibrations. I'd like the vibrations off while I sleep or while I'm at a meeting.

Thanks.

Thanks. That seems like the solution because I can still see the notifications if I look at the phone but I don't have to be bothered with the vibration.

If it's face down it won't light the screen on alerts whether you're on Do Not Disturb or not. Do Not Disturb will accomplish what you want to do aside from just setting your alert to silent all the time.

That's kind of a "if a tree falls in the forest and nobody's there to hear it" kind of thing. If it's face down you won't see it anyway but at least it's saving some battery from lighting up the screen. Maybe that'll help iOS 11 dev beta 2 ;)

It used to be that the phone screen lit up anyway. Same for when it was in your pocket. It exists for the reason exactly that you mention: battery. But I get the feeling the OP thought the audible alert was part of that as well.

I definitely agree with you, just thought it was funny it had to be face down to not get the alerts, but I think at least that point it's just the screen which obviously doesn't need to light when face down. :)
