I thought I heard that if my iPhone was face down, I wouldn't hear alerts. I always keep the phone in silent mode, but I hear the vibrations. I'd like the vibrations off while I sleep or while I'm at a meeting.
Thanks.
Thanks.
After more than 15 years covering everything Apple, it’s with a heavy heart we announce that we will no longer be publishing new content on iMore and the iMore forums will be closing as of November 1st, 2024.
You’ll always hear the vibration on a solid surface.
While you sleep you can schedule Do Not Dustin but manually enable during meetings:

That's kind of a "if a tree falls in the forest and nobody's there to hear it" kind of thing. If it's face down you won't see it anyway but at least it's saving some battery from lighting up the screen. Maybe that'll help iOS 11 dev beta 2If it's face down it won't light the screen on alerts whether you're on Do Not Disturb or not.
IDK ... Does the light go out in a refrigerator when the door is closed?...f it's face down it won't light the screen on alerts whether you're on Do Not Disturb or not.
Yes, simply push the button of the light and you’ll see.IDK ... Does the light go out in a refrigerator when the door is closed?...

I definitely agree with you, just thought it was funny it had to be face down to not get the alerts, but I think at least that point it's just the screen which obviously doesn't need to light when face down.It used to be that the phone screen lit up anyway. Same for when it was in your pocket. It exists for the reason exactly that you mention: battery. But I get the feeling the OP thought the audible alert was part of that as well.
