A lot of people I do business with have chat on their phones. I don't keep it on in the background myself since I don't want to get bugged, but now that work in my field is spread throughout the day I can go 'work' from anywhere.
It isn't free on a Treo, and I wouldn't care if you had to pay for an app on the iPhone either, as long as it was available. Good to see you can use web apps for this though.
