The AppleTV 2&3 have no user accessable internal storage... so there's no real point to using file transfer utilities... if what you want to do is watch a movie that's on the MacBook in an iTunes library, HomeShare that library to the AppleTV, and it will play that way just fine

Itunes wont play mkv, if you not convert them or does it work just to do the share thing ? On the otherwise i have to fix subtitles and stuff in itunes. In xbmc it is much easier in many ways

xmbc is a jailbreak app for the atv2... afp & sftp are file transfer protocols and don't really apply since there's no storage on the atv2... atvFlash-Black or xmbc installed on a jailbroken atv2 are the only ways to handle media files outside of iTunes that I'm familiar with.
