Address book not sorting Alphabetically

My sister got an iPhone 4 and ever since transferring her contacts to the phone they haven't been in order. Its weird if you go into the address book the firs letter of her contacts names are in alphabetical order but then the second letter of the names aren't in order. I made sure that the contacts are being sorted by first name. any ideas or suggestions would be awesome thanks

There is a setting where you can sort them alphabetically by either first name or last name. If I am understanding your question correctly, she just needs to change the setting to sort by last name

I think that it is working for the first letter of the name but when it comes to the second letter it's nit working. Ie..all the C's are together but not in order. Is this the problem?

If this is so make sure that the display order and sort order are selected using the same parameters. ie... First name/last name. Make sure they match.

If she goes to the contact, she'll see that some of them have names in different fields. Some might have both names as the last name, some might have one name as a middle name and other things like that. I had the same issue and had to manually change a lot of contact info.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I too had the same problem when I put the sim card in my new 3gs.
