Activating 2G iPhone start a new contract?

Hi,

I just go a 3gs iphone and am wanting to give my old iphone to my mom for her to try...will activating it through itunes cause her to have a 2 year contract with AT&T?

No, but if you're using her sim card, it will cause her to get a data plan automatically added to her account.

I am going to give my son my old IPhone (he's 13) I was going to do this through the proper channels. But if we just swap out the card AT&T will just add the data plan without extending his contract? I like that!

I called ATT last night and it turns out that Alli was correct...It WILL NOT extend her contract. Just plug into iTunes and activate under their SIM and you're ready to go.

That's the big advantage of GSM phones. You can sim swap any time you want with any phone you can get your hands on. Doesn't cost you a dime.
