From imore back in the fall: “In testing conducted by DisplayMate, the company concluded that the iPhone 14 Pro Max has earned the "highest ever Display Performance Grade of A+“.
“there are quite a few test items with a result that says "visually indistinguishable from perfect"”.

The 14 PM title beat out last year’s winner 13 PM. I say this only to point out the displays are already excellent. The 15 PM having the same display as 14 PM is not a bad thing.
Also to note, Apple already requires custom specs for Samsung and LG to meet. iPhone 14 PM displays are not off the shelf.
What the article should be saying (though it is guessing) essentially: Apple has its own in house designs on MicroLED that display makers aren’t doing (yet?) on their own. So Apple plans on sending the design technology to a display maker (Or other contractor) to get it done. Be sure it’ll be optimized for iOS.
