So ok theres 600,000 iphones sold. Fir the 24th to be received by people.
That means 600,000 activations of new iPhones! OoOo boy Im gonna prepare myself mentally for that day when i pick up and Best Buy says take it home and try it there...

they should have just made it that they get machines that precut out the new micro sims and we just swap them in. At least for those upgrading, and just have to do new lines and new comers activate their sims.

All I know is that once 24 comes its gonna be a lot worse than this.

This honestly makes me kind of happy I can't get it until July (Canada), I won't have to deal with all this activation bull crap. When I got my iPhone 3G I was the first in line from 5AM and it took 2.5 hours to activate the god damn phone.

Yeah now I am kind of scared to see what will happen. Because I remember there being lots of problems for many. Yet I got my 3GS launch at BB and no problems was in and out in 20. And i pre-ordered again with Best Buy this year. So hopefully its smooth as last year with Best Buy.

And good luck with your activation this time Jello! :)

The servers always go down when there are lots of people trying to activate iPhones. If you think the pre-order was rough, the activation could possibly get worse! It took me 8 hours to activate my 3GS because AT&T told me I couldn't just switch my SIM from my 3G. Finally after enough frustration, I did it and everything was fine. There were some stories on blogs of people having to wait 24 hours to finally get activated.

I also know some people that picked up at the Apple store, and they wouldn't even try to activate for them in-store because of server issues.

i think they just transfer over the information to the new sim card. And activate then deactivate the old one. And they then change the information on your account that you have now an iPhone4. Now imagine if thousands of people are doing this.

I would guess it would be like 9 iphones per second being activated that one day.

1 day wont kill you

Ever since I had a nightmare experience on my very first cell years ago with activation I always just wait until the next day early in the morning and activate.

Really? When I got my 3GS it took me 15 minutes or so. I had to set up the new contract, and then I was good. In and out in 15 minutes with a new iPhone.
