4s not working with speaker dock

We have an iLuv high fidelity speaker dock that I recently got on Groupon. Works great with my 4s that I got on release day last year, but won't work at all with my husband's 4s that he got a few weeks ago. Both are running iOS 6. Any ideas to get it working?
