4.2.1 jailbreak untethered? Old boot rom?

Hi everyone, I was reading on the dev team blog and read there latest update. They said if you have an iPhone 3G or 3gS with old boot rom it is untethered. What is the old boot rom exactly?

In short, the earlier 3GS had exploit in bootrom (old) which was used to JB the phone. In later 3GS, Apple fix the bootrom (new) to stop the exploit. Google for instructions on how you can tell if you got the old or new.
