Hello all,

I have tried upgrading my jail broken 3GS 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 and all I have now is a door stop. I have followed all the guides, downloaded the iOS, tried using redsnow, ifaith, snowbreeze but all I have now is a phone in pawned dfu state and when I try to boot it (for example with the just boot option in redsnow) I get a white screen - that's it. I tried stitching my old 5.0.1 signatures as well but that didn't work. I tried restoring to iOS 6 but can't do hat either - I get error message 1600, 3124 etc.

I would appreciate any help as all I can do it now is maybe sell it for spare parts.

Thanks.

You can't upgrade to 5.1.1 since apple is no longer signing it. Ur only option is to go to 6.0 and jailbreak with redsnow. Put ur phone into dfu mode and restore thru iTunes.

I tried that but when trying to upgrade to 6 I keep getting error messages. I either get error 1600 or 3124 or it just says 'waiting for phone' and it gets stuck there. Any thoughts?

your host files are innacurate because they were changed, either by your or a program youve run on your pc.
try running it through a computer tht hasnt had any jailbreak related software on it...
example of such programs are ifath, tiny umbrella, etc....

I've (thankfully) never had this issue so I searched and some people seem to think it's a battery related issue.

1618 battery problem
solution:-- tested by me

1. Disassemble iphone
2. Restore without battery
3. Eerror 1618
4. Charge battery
5. Restore firmware u wants

Like I said, I've never tested this and hope will never have to test it. But if you've exhausted all your other options, I suppose it's worth a try...

I doubt that its a battery problem as the phone was working perfectly up to the restore attempt. Thanks but any other ideas? I'm getting really desperate

what kind of usb wire are you using?
do you have a stock apple sync cable?
the 1600 error i got a few times the other day when i was using an aftermarket sync cable.
also arew you sing usb 2.0 technology? or 3.0 or an older version?
also, you can use redsnow to kick your device out of recovery.

I'm using the original apple supplied USB cable. USB 2 and redsnow boots the device but all I get is a white screen. No iOS comes up and no possibilities to restore.

When you turn your phone on, all you get is a white screen??
Can you hold the power key and home at the same time and turn phone off? Because if you can you should do that... ... So first, plug it into computer, shut it down... Then turn on latest redsnow, then put your phone into defy mode.... (hold power for 3 seconds, then hold BOTH power and home for 10 seconds, the let go of power but hold onto home for 10-15 seconds... Then try and let redsnow restore any firmware that you have on there...

I think redsnow is only for downgrading, so like if your on 5.0.1 you could only got to 4.3.5 or lower... But first get your phone to work again, then figure out how to Jb it....

Also when you plug your phone in and use iTunes, it's recognized right?
Can you select your phone? Does it have music or pictures or apps on it?
Maybe your screen is broken?
