When I checked the app store just now I'm getting a lot of release notes from apps that say "3.2 compatibility". What's up with this? Is it coming out soon?

I suppose so. The SDK is in beta 4 now, so it should happen soon. I guess 3.1.3 was really purely to mess with jailbreakers, huh? Lame.

Nothing has said it's coming to the iPhone. It could be an iPad-only release. At the same time, nothing has said it will be iPad-only. There's no detail at all.

As far as app compatability, all those apps will work on the iPad too.

Well, it's always been referred to as the iPhone OS 3.2. Ever since 1/27. Do we know of any new features it might bring?

Eventually, OS 4.1 is supposed to identical for both the iPhone and the iPad. That was yesterday's news, anyway.

3.2 will be released within the next 2-3 weeks, if the annual schedule from Apple is upheld. Every year, the updates come out, almost religiously. I doubt that 3.2 will be any exception.

And yes, 3.1.3 WAS released just to fuc k with jailbreakers. It's expected from Apple. They try to screw with us whenever they can.

Guess i'm more worried about 4.0 being iphone only (and not ipad). I don't care if 3.2 ever gets to iphone at this point.

Just my .002 but I think that the next update that the iPhone will see is going to be OS 4.0. I just can't see Apple doing two OS updates this year when they can wait a little longer and roll out one OS for both iPad and iPhone.

Um... They ALWAYS do at LEAST 2/3 upgrades yearly.

2.0, 2.1, 2.1.2, 3.0, 3.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 3.2, 3.2.2, 4.0

That's MOST LIKELY going to be the pattern.

There is always a x.0 initial upgrade release, followed by the x.1 bug fix release. Then there's the 'screw the jailbreakers' x.1.2 release that's usually put out, etc.

That's pretty much been the pattern since 1.0, dude....

a two-year history is not enough to base the future off of.

and you missed That there were 9 1.x.x releases in the first year and skipped 3.1.1.

That they did those releases means NOTHING for the future.

Do you read or just spout off at the mouth? Like I said it was just my opinion never said it was a fact and I am well aware of the history of the OS updates for the iPhone. Next time try to read the post before you say something. Also there has never been the iPad before and that device could very well change the way that Apple does the OS updates.

Great point there. No one really know what Apple is going to do. It's all just opinion and rumor at this point. It always cracks me up when people talk like they know everything for a fact.
