Yeah I think the extra gb of ram is because of the dual cameras. But they both will operate at the same relative speeds so you shouldn't make that a deal breaker.

There are a few reasons I can think of. First, portrait mode uses up a whole lot of resources. Also, the larger display means more pixels have to be pushed. Again, this uses more resources than the iPhone 7.

I completely agree with what Rob is saying!
Processing the image using the Telephoto lens requires a slightly bumped up RAM.
Hence 3GB

Larger display didn't mean anything considering its the same size and resolution as the 6p which has 1 gb RAM.

I am not sure but i used the 6p and 6sp and had issues with active apps being kicked out of memory on both but this hasn't happened on my 7p. Whether it is improved software or RAM or something else i don't know, but the 7p works much better for me than the previous iterations

Kind of comparing apples (no pun intended) and oranges though. While I don't think that they would increase the RAM based off of the display alone I can definitely see it being a factor when compounded with everything else.

Like everyone else in this thread, I'm just making a guess. Apple will never come out and say " we added more RAM in the Plus because..."

More ram usually helps on multitasking, not only the programs we are actually using but also the ones running on background, like system apps and so.

I don't really see it that way because the iPad 3 through iPad air had 1gb RAM despite the significantly higher resolution.

But it is like you said just a guess.... Apple won't come out and say why they did it.

I use a 7, and there are times when apps in the background restart when I don't want them to. The Plus' 3GB of RAM may have been needed for the camera system, but I wonder if anyone has experience to know that the extra GB has other practical benefits in day-to-day use. A prime example for me is that I drive Uber, and it's a big pain point when the driver app restarts while I'm in another app (Google Maps, Music, etc). It would be worth it for me to upgrade to a 7 Plus if the driver app never restarted.
