13" MBP 2012 making startup sound even lid closed

This is my 4th Mac and this is the first time I've experienced this problem. Is this a sign of a hardware problem?

No, not that I can tell. Do you simply want to disable the startup chime? If so, check out THIS thread.

MY problem is not the startup sound during startup/booting up, it's the startup sound that it makes even the lid of the MBP is closed or simply the MBP is sleeping. I don't think this is normal.

update: reset the PRAM and it's all good now.
