So I don't know if there are any reps here or someone that can answer this. I've looked around to try to find the answer.

If I go in to upgrade to a new device can I put a large sum down? And also can I make small extra deposits throughout the payment period?

The only reason that I ask is that I used to work for T-Mobile and people would walk into the store and throw an extra 100 bucks down and it lowered their monthly bill.

I know with the 30 plan you can put 30% down but could I put like 50% down?

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Unfortunately, no. My suggestion is to make the payments that they require, and bank the difference (the extra) until you have enough to pay it off. It's interest free, and you can pay it off at any time but you can only pay the amount associated with the plan you choose at the beginning.

You can choose to pay an extra "down payment" up front. For example full retail of phone is $650, spaced over 24 months for a $27.09 monthly. You can choose to put an extra $200 down up front leaving an $18.75 installment. Unfortunately at this time AT&T doesn't support adding additional payments while in the middle of a Next Installment unless you accelerate to the trade in and upgrade or full pay off amount.

If I'm currently on a Next plan, and eligible for an upgrade, can I walk into an Apple Store, pick the phone I want (so I get it that day) and completed the whole process their? Or would I need to visit an att store?

Yes, if you are on the Next Plan already, you can walk into Apple and upgrade there. The Specialist are very well equipped to handle upgrades from all major US carriers, esp ATT, at the store. Apple will also offer you credit towards your upgrade, if you're wanting to trade a previous model iPhone in for your new one.
