When did iMore stop being an Apple site?

As you're not prepared to look at adverts when using the site, I am effectively paying for it on your behalf. Please consider compensating me for this - contact me privately and we can set up some kind of regular payment.

I control what is shown on my screen. If I don't want to see it then it's not going to be there. However, if you want to pay my Internet bill, and the electricity I use to power the machine I use to view it, then you can have a say in what is shown on my screen. Contact me privately and we can make arrangements for you to pay my Internet and electric bills.

Having said that; just as an example, I use the WowHead website on a daily bases, several times a day sometimes. I've been using the site since 2009. I also pay a subscription fee because I use the website so much. Not only because I use it but because of the valuable information it offers me as a World of Warcraft player. Because I pay a sub I do not have to look at ads. If iMore wants to offer subs and begin offering articles that are helpful to me, then I will gladly pay for that service.

If you block advertisements, how do you pay your share of the running of this site? I assume you are not freeloading from other users who don't block ads.

I volunteer my time freely, when I am able, helping others here at iMore with their Apple devices. I feel like that allows me to use an adblocker if I so desire.

If I have no interest financially in the site I will use it for myself however I see fit. If I don't want to be bothered by ads I will use an ad blocker.

You personally find value in the site so you are willing to put up with the ads. While the site provides good content it won't hurt me if it was to eventually go away. This is where the part about me not caring comes in. If the site is still running because you're willing to put up with the ads then that benefits me because I can still access it without putting up with ads. If eventually the site goes the Forbes route and doesn't provide what I want to see unless I disable my ad blocker, that's also fine with me. I'll just find content someplace else.

I personally go by Newton's third law.

The action is that I use an ad blocker.

The reaction is my browser flies on sites like iMore.

I’m clearly missing something. I understand that the displaying of ads bring revenue to iMore. In addition, I understand that by clicking on an ad and then making a purchase brings a profit to the seller. What I don’t understand is how the mere viewing of ads give a person the notion that he or she should be compensated for that viewing by those who prefer not to view ads. Somebody please help me understand.....

I'm lost on that one too.

Well .. every successful business needs revenue to operate. I think the best choice to have two choices, paid membership with no ads and free but with ads. I personally don't have any issue paying a reasonable price in some time of monthly membership (Hell, I support a couple of You Tubers through Patreon.) I mean, businesses need money to function, right? It's gotta come from somewhere...

What is your role in MoNa? You seem like you are being harmed financially when @Sherry_B @BreakingKayfabe and myself use an ad blocker. If @James Falconer wants me to compensate MoNa for my use of ad blockers I will. He can contact me at any time. I have said before I have no problem with a paid subscription service that removes the ads. It would be interesting to see how much MoNa makes from the ads and what the average ad pays them as well as what the average page load pays them. Perhaps some people would be less likely to use ad blockers if they saw the financial harm they do to MoNa. From your earlier post it appears you are a proponent of socialism so you should understand this is a form of socialism, albeit on a much smaller scale. From your posts it sounds like you have a role in MoNa so I am curious what that role is.

Please point out exactly where I said I was a proponent of socialism.

I am pointing out that if you block ads when viewing an ad supported site such as this one, you are freeloading. Unless you contribute in some other way, of course. That is obvious, right? What didn't you understand exactly.

I don't know anything about this tapatalk, so I can't comment on that. But I do think that if you are freeloading from other people, you should look at ways to compensate them. I'm sure you agree.

I'm retired and an empty nester. I've put in my time. I can play when ever I want.

I went back and reread my post, and what I SHOULD have said was:

Nice. Another Warcrack fellow player.

My son is 18 and "independent" and I have a 100 meg fiber connection at work and at home so I too play whenever I want. :)

Apologies... due to the nature of this thread I was on the defense. Totally jelly over your connection speeds!

Understood and thanks.

Now, to get back on topic:
Considering this is supposed to be an apple and all things related website, why is there so much space and editorial time suddenly being given to the Nintendo Switch?
Nothing on PlayStation, Xbox etc but an absolute shedfull of stuff on Nintendo!
Are they paying you to give this thing so much coverage?

This site falls under the umbrella of Mobile Nations, which covers Android, Apple, Windows and Blackberry. As stated by @metllicamilitia, Xbox is covered over on Windows Central, and PlayStation is on Android Central, I believe.

Is MoNa being paid for this coverage? That I cannot answer. But what I can say is that I love being able to come to this site and find answers to questions or suggestions on issues or ideas on something other than mobile devices. I have Xbox, PS4 and a Wii in our house and the MoNa site has the information I'm searching for. To me is "one stop shopping".

For now, the Switch is that "next big thing" so yes, we (the supporting folks of MoNa - the users, the mods, admins, and paid staff) are going to have a support forum for it.

But not only Nintendo, here at iMore Forums we have Google and Gmail, Windows and Linux, Instant Messaging & Social, Photography and Videography, Health, Media, Transport, etc. None of it's related to Apple, but we still have forums for it. Again, "one stop shopping".

I've said before I'd pay for an add free subscription.

If I am using an antenna to detect local tv channels for me to view, and I decided to get up to go do something every time a commercial is displayed, am I freeloading? Are those channels not offered to the public free of charge? Is iMore not open to the public free of charge? Although ads are available for viewing, there’s nothing that states that I have to view them. No one is stopping the ads. We are, however, preventing the ads from being displayed on our devices. Nothing more.

Yes, I do agree with you, but blocking ads from displaying on one’s devices is not freeloading. I’ve maintained for years that advertisers, in general, do not give a crap about people’s rights.

I get a weekly newspaper that is distributed free. It's supported by ads. It usually comes with a bunch of inserts I dump out in the garbage as I go inside. Am I freeloading?

I don't even read the free newspaper I get. The only time I keep them is if I'm planning on building a fire in the fire pit. Am I freeloading?
