    Just a quick update: never found a fix on 2.2.1; however, I have not yet had this problem with OS 3.0. Let's hope it stays that way! :-D

    If you press the Home button + the Sleep/Wake button, the phone will take a screenshot and place it in your camera roll.

    I've rebooted the phone numerous times, but I still get the unnecessary alert tone. I use a third party voicemail service, so I don't think it's that. Maybe I'll back up the phone and do a full restore via iTunes. Will post if that fixes the issue.
